The Beginning of Something Great!… Hopefully

I’m not the most eloquent writer, and sitting down to perfectly describe what this space is supposed to be has felt way harder than I expected. So instead of getting stuck chasing the perfect words, I’m going to lean into what I do know.

Lists. I’m really good at lists.

The Why

I’ve always had a slightly obsessive need to research every decision I make. Every purchase. Every trip. Every appliance. Every life choice. I want to know the pros, the cons, the hidden reviews, the “what no one tells you.”

Does everyone need a full breakdown on which air fryer is actually worth it? Or whether buying a plane ticket on a Tuesday is better than Wednesday? Probably not.

But someone might.

My hope is to be that reassuring voice in the middle of the Google spiral. The one that helps you feel confident pressing “add to cart” or “book now.” If I can make even one decision in your life feel easier, this little corner of the internet will have done its job.

The Who

I’m married to my best friend, Steve, and together we’re raising two beautiful kids who completely changed our world in the best way.

I am, without question, the most disorganized Virgo you’ll ever meet — but my list-making skills are elite.

I’m constantly searching for ways to make life feel simpler, smoother, and a little more manageable. We’re homebodies at heart, but we also love a good adventure. Having kids started a brand new chapter for us, but it didn’t close the old ones. Getting to share the things we love with our children has been one of the greatest joys of our lives.

The What

When it came time to name this blog, we wanted something that felt personal. We tried anagrams of our names, trendy buzzwords, our kids’ names — you name it.

But we kept coming back to something simpler.

Hickory — the street where our home is.
Edition — because this feels like a publication of our lives.

The Hickory Edition is our stories, our successes, our failures, our passions, our research rabbit holes, and everything in between.

It’s our life — in print.

The When

This blog is beginning during a season of life where we’re figuring out who we are again.

Parenthood is beautiful and fulfilling and magical — but it can also feel like Groundhog Day sometimes. The routines. The responsibilities. The constant mental load of being a parent, a spouse, a homeowner, an employee, a functioning adult.

Somewhere along the way, parts of “pre-mom me” got a little quieter.

I love the mom version of myself deeply. But I also loved who I was before kids. My hope is that this space helps those two versions meet in the middle — and maybe helps you do the same.

The Where

The Hickory Edition is coming to you live from Long Island, NY.

Steve and I were both born and raised in the tri-state area, and now we’re raising our family here. It’s home in every sense of the word — loud, busy, nostalgic, and full of life.
